TITLE:
Product Line Director
DESCRIPTION:
Reporting directly to the Vice-President of Personal Protective Systems, this position will have overall responsibility for the business performance of the North America and UK PPS Product Lines which includes - EOD/IEDD/UXO, Force Protection, Search & Tactical, CBRNe and ROVs. The primary driver for product line business development and implementation of business plans to insure aggressive growth and continued market share dominance. With several direct reports, this individual will oversee the management of product life cycles from the moment a market requirement is identified, including business case and business plan development, project approval, marketing and launch plans through to product obsolescence. This role carries product line P&L responsibility.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Strategic business planning and creating a product roadmap for the product line and advising on a technology road map with the CTO. This includes existing and future products, add-ons, upgrades/mid life improvements, tools, accessories, services and complimentary third party products;
- Contributing to and monitoring product development activity including budgets, concurrent engineering utilizing the gate phase review process, and beta testing within the PMT context and product launch;
- Ensuring that appropriate metrics are established and utilized to manage the performance of the product line;
Representing the product line outside Med-Eng. The Product Line Director will have overall responsibility for the positioning and promotion of the product in the market. This will involve giving customer presentations and participating in relevant conferences, symposiums and media coverage; - Managing all direct reports of the Product Lines.
Qualifications:
- Experience in product management, sales and marketing of semi-complex, engineered military and industrial equipment;
- Operational experience as a Program Manager with Government experience as well as appropriate End User experience;
- A B.Sc., B.Eng. or Commerce Degree. An MBA would be a definite asset;
- Eight to ten years in product line management;
- Military or government background in related fields including EOD (IEDD, UXO, Demining), CBRNe, Search and Force Protection;
- Government program experience in recent conflicts involving Iraq and/or Afghanistan;
- Experience in a direct sales setting, preferably in a military, law enforcement or aerospace product company;
- Significant experience in a programmatic environment where a Product Marketing/ Management Team or Integrated Program Team matrix structure has been utilized.
- A demonstrated track record for establishing and implementing strong product strategy;
- Experience identifying and satisfying market requirements is paramount, this individual will have demonstrated an aggressive, proactive approach to cost reduction and non-standard customer special requirements;
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to undertake a lead project management role in a technical environment. This person will have proven that he or she can be highly successful coordinating, influencing and inspiring others without a direct reporting line;
- Experience driving products through all phases of market readiness, including development, manufacturing, quality and beta testing and market strategy;
- Experience managing outsourced suppliers and contractors;
- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills with demonstrated expertise in negotiating; drafting proposals, agreements and complex business letters;
- While this position will operate in English, proficiency in other languages is an asset;
- An in-depth understanding of how buying decisions are influenced in a multi-stakeholder setting;
- Experience in the processes involved in Tenders, RFPs, RFQs and RFIs.
