TITLE:
Mechanical Engineer
DESCRIPTION:
The incumbent is required to provide mechanical design input to projects and is expected to actively participate in all engineering design activities related to product development, starting from conceptualization, 3D-rendering, prototyping, testing/validation, pre-production, documentation, etc. Knowledge of Computer Aided Design tools, machine shop environment, rapid prototyping techniques and tooling, would be highly beneficial to the position.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Utilizes product definition criteria to design, propose, prototype and test concepts
- Interprets input from Marketing and end-users to further refine design and function
- Rapid prototyping activities, including the use of Solid Edge, 3D printer, prototype moulds and equipment, etc.
- Incorporates feedback from Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and CDT’s meetings and addresses design, material and part issues, in partnership with other dedicated individuals
- Considers prototype and product fabrication methods and costs, budget and project delivery deadlines in determining course of action
- Finish and transfer all required deliverables from R&D to Manufacturing Engineering and other company’s departments, as required in the course of the Gate Process Product Development
- Repairs, or provides solutions, and modifies prototypes and demos for Marketing or Special Customer Requests
- Researches innovative approaches to improve products
- Prepares customized test reports for component performance, verification, validation and durability testing.
- Assists in the selection and procurement of samples and materials
- Plans and coordinates the design and preparation of samples, materials, fixtures and apparatus required for testing
- Gathers data on testing requirements of prototypes
- Assists in conducting tests
- Documents findings on performance of prototypes, prepares, analyzes, and presents test data of prototypes, or products, in clear, usable format
- Assists in the organization and inventory of R&D materials and testing equipment
Qualifications:
- The preferred candidate will possess a B. Eng in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
- Must be able and willing to travel
- Must be able to obtain security clearance
- 3-5 years experience as an engineer or 5-7 years experience as a senior technologist in product development field
- 3D computer aided design experience. Proficiency with Solid Edge is an asset
- Experience in a machine shop environment and familiarity with related tools & techniques
- Experience in dealing with subcontractors for product development and tooling
- Knowledge of plastics, injection molding, thermoforming is an asset.
- Experience in HVAC and refrigeration systems is an asset.
- Familiarity or experience in rapid prototyping techniques, processes and tooling is an asset
