TITLE:
Financial Analyst
DESCRIPTION:
The incumbent is responsible for the more complex accounting transactions, including, but not limited to financial analysis, management reporting, and general financial support of multiple product lines. The financial analyst analyzes past and present financial data and estimates future revenues and expenditures, applying principles of finance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conducts and documents financial analysis projects.
- Work with product lines with financial functions, such as assessing, auditing, planning, budgeting, consolidation, cost control, and project control.
- Evaluates and analyzes expenditures, depreciation, proposals, investment opportunities, rate of return, profit plans, operating records, financial statements, etc.
- Analyzes records of present and past operations, trends and costs, estimated and realized revenues, administrative commitments, and obligations incurred to project future revenues and expenses.
- Documents revenues and expenditures expected and submits to management.
- Develops financial/accounting concepts for financial planning and control.
- Assists in preparation of special studies, analyses, and recommendations in areas such as budgets, forecasts, financial plans, statistical reports, and business forecasts.
- Advises management on matters, such as effective use of resources and assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
- Interprets budgets to management.
- Coordination of and assistance with the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts within the supported unit
- Monthly budget to actual reporting and analysis, and processing of required journal entries
- Preparation and review of weekly, monthly, and quarterly management reports as required by the supported unit
- Assist in the preparation and analysis of business cases
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Commerce (Honours Accounting) or a Bachelor of Administration degree with specialization in Accounting.
- Professional Accounting Designation.
- Proficiency with computers and business information systems.
- A minimum of five (5) years experience
- Above average computer skills including competence with database programs, Visual Manufacturing (asset), Microsoft Office, as well as Internet knowledge.
- Ability to analyze complex problems/situations, gather relevant data from various sources, identify problems, assess alternatives, and exercise business expertise in selecting the appropriate actions or solutions.
- Ability to communicate in English effectively, tactfully and diplomatically with internal and external customers.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports and documents.
- Ability to independently manage and organize multiple work activities in order to meet or exceed established deadlines and priorities.
- Interpersonal skills such as negotiation and coaching abilities.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a leadership role to achieve team or organizational tasks and/or goals.
