TITLE:
Commodity Specialist - Sr Buyer
DESCRIPTION:
The incumbent is responsible for managing assigned commodities while working with Program Managers, Quality and Engineering in the development of new products. The incumbent is also responsible for sourcing, identifying suppliers, contacting potential suppliers, issuing supplier questionnaires, issuing non-disclosures, performing reference checks and completing Dunn & Bradstreet reports.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensures timely, cost effective materials and service acquisition and the development of product delivery plans and schedules in conjunction with Project Managers, Product Managers, Engineering Departments and Managers of the Manufacturing Department.
- With an increasing role of responsibility develop specific annual purchasing plans for assigned commodities that support MRP manufacturing requirements for multiple manufacturing operations.
- Establishes goals and objectives for reducing total cost and improving efficiencies with the responsibility of establishing standard cost and lead time based on project’s forecast.
- Continually, surveys markets for best source of supply. Contacts potential suppliers, performs reference checks, issues non-disclosure agreements, issues quotes, reviews and evaluates quotes, visits potential suppliers, coordinates supplier audits and evaluations, recommends suppliers.
- Manages all new products tooling contracts developing deliverable in conjunction with engineering, suppliers and monitors the performance, changes, cost and delivery schedule from the modifications of tooling design.
- Implement supplier partnership programs with emphasis in long term relationship with the initiative of supplier reduction, reduced inventory levels, improved quality, reduced cycle time, improved JIT delivery schedules and reduced cost.
- Develops supplier partnership performance indicators with engineering, quality and junior buyers with long term development requirements that provide ship to shop.
- Monitors supplier relationship hand off with MRP Buyers to maintain effective communications with suppliers.
- Leads Buyers in assigned commodities in enhancing their overall performance by providing guidance to the supplier partnership indicators.
- Establishes priorities for assigned commodities with key suppliers to ensure priorities are maintained.
- Advises management of industry developments for assigned commodities.
- Acts as the intermediary in vendor quality and performance issues.
- Represent commodities from the design stage to production interfacing with all levels of management both internally and externally.
- Travels as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum two-year college degree within the Supply Chain Management profession
- Mandatory PMAC C.P.P. Certification
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of related resource planning, production planning, master scheduling or Materials Management experience
- Strong managerial and negotiation skills
- Experience/knowledge in microcomputer software applications required, Visual MRP System would be a strong asset
- Must be fully conversant in ERP/MRP mainframe systems
- Minimum ten (10) years supervisory experience within a high tech multi-plant manufacturing environment
- Ability to communicate in English effectively, tactfully and diplomatically with internal and external customers
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a leadership role to achieve team or organizational tasks and/or goals
